When faced with the task of deciding where to take your next holiday, the choice of destinations if large but usually limited to well-known resort destinations. In any given tourist region, the larger hotels that are organised to look after package-based travellers are usually situated in particular areas. Of course there are good reasons for that. By grouping hotels together transfer journeys become more efficient for tour operators to organise. Also facilities and attractions tend to be larger and better given the larger volume of tourists that are present in a single area.
However when it comes to villa holidays these decisions on location vary quite significantly. Travellers are no longer limited to the major resort areas or the places that already have established holiday market infrastructure. Those opting for a villa holiday are offered a wide range of choices from beachside properties, peaceful countryside places, villas in the centres of old towns and locations with significant levels of natural beauty. One of the beauties of a villa holiday is the choice and flexibility it provides and, by offering a wider choice of holiday destinations, that freedom starts at home before the holiday has even begun.
When faced with the job of booking a holiday in a villa, many tourists may already have a resort area in mind, perhaps somewhere they have visited previously on a hotel-based trip. But before going ahead and booking a villa, it is suggested that they wait and investigate a little further the choices available to them. For example an island such as Mallorca has quite a few popular seafront resorts such as Magaluf, Arenal, Andratx or Cala Bona. What many people fail to appreciate is that Mallorca has many more wonderful towns and villages across the island, most of which are seldom experienced by package holiday tourists. Fortunately there are villas available for rent in most of these wonderful towns. Places such as Selva, Campanet, Alaro and Sencelles offer a more authentic Mallorca experience, while Soller, Valldemossa and Deia are all very attractive towns that have escaped any large-scale tourism development. Opting for a villa in any of these places offers the same holiday climate as the major resorts, but includes more privacy and provides a more relaxing environment for those who use their holiday time to get away from the stresses and bustle of busy day-to-day life.
Similar options exist on the nearby island of Menorca and on the other Balearic favourite Ibiza, where there are many luxurious villas available away from the typical hotel areas. While the younger visitors tend to opt for either Ibiza Town or San Antonio, with their enviable selection of world famous night clubs, and families will prefer resorts like Santa Eulalia or Playa d'en Bossa, there are many more quiet beaches and bays within easy reach of the island's luxury villas. At the top of Ibiza, Portinatx offers several villas with private swimming pools surrounded by pine trees. On the west coast the beach at San Lorenzo or inland at Es Cana, home of the famous hippy market, there are all kinds of villas suited for couples, families or larger groups of friends.
Mallorca and Ibiza are not the only Mediterranean islands that provide a superb choice of villas for rental. The Greek islands of Corfu, Zante and Lefkas have, for many years, been popular choices with people seeking a more secluded holiday. Turkey's southern coast has recently seen many new villa developments become available for holiday rentals. The region is quickly overtaking many of the more traditional European holiday regions in terms of visitor numbers and accommodation choices. Turkey's popular resort destinations of Bodrum, Antalya and Dalaman now have everything expected of popular beach holiday resorts, but they now also offer some superb villa holiday choices. There are even dedicated villa complexes set inland, which offer the services of a hotel combined with the privacy and peacefulness of a private villa.
Villa holidays are now a well developed alternative to the typical hotel vacation with many well known travel operators providing choices of both types of holiday.
