When did I start thinking about coping with breakup and what I should do to get my ex-girlfriend back?
It happened like this. One evening she reached her limit on listening to my accusations-accusations from the Green Eyed Monster.
"Kiss off," she had said, slamming the door. "I'm out of here."
"Wait," I said, moving toward her. "Let's talk this through."
"When hell freezes over," she replied.
I hate to admit it, but she was in the right. It was my moral deficit that had me wondering what I could do to get my girlfriend back.
She was a flirt. That much was true. But I had no basis for thinking she had ever been unfaithful. Nevertheless, I felt compelled to find evidence that she had been unfaithful. When she had claimed that she was going to go to her M.D. I would find a way of showing up there accidentally on purpose. I had even hired a private detective to follow her. He found nothing incriminating.
So I had to admit, I was the source of most of our marital discontent. I was spiritually bankrupt. My solution was to enter the dark night of the soul.
A Spiritual Approach to Getting My Ex-Girlfriend Back
From Buddhism I had learned the art of detachment--detachment from suffering. The focus was on enlightenment, not worship of a deity. One thing I liked about Buddhism was that there was no dogma. Rather, there were mind experiments. It said, in effect, try this and see where it goes. I might be directed to become the object of what I perceived.
Coping with breakup was like playing tennis. I could choose to be in the moment or I could step back and analyze my playing. There was this saying: Thou Art That, meaning you could become whatever you were aware of. When I see a bird flying, I can be the bird in flight. Or, I can be conscious that I am observing the bird. Wherein the deity was invoked, I followed the path of St. John of the Cross. The practical effect of this discipline was that I learned to control my mind.
I tried traditional Christian approaches. I sought God's help in overcoming the Seven Deadly Sins and their ancillary spiritual defects:
Pride
Avarice
Lust
Wrath
Gluttony
Envy
Sloth
The Spiritual Result of My Journey to Get My Ex-Girlfriend Back
With God's help, I burned these defects from my soul and entered the arid spiritual desert--flat, dry and abandoned. It was revealed to me that my jealousy was a compound of pride, lust and avarice.
It became apparent to me that I had converted my beloved into an object so that I thought of her as a possession designed only to satisfy my pride and lust. I wandered the desert of my soul for it seemed an eternity and when I emerged, it was in a valley green with trees, shrubs and streams. I drank from the cool water and bathed in the sacred liquor.
How then could I return to my original project of getting my ex-girlfriend back? It so happened that we met again on a cruise liner. We had independently decided to take a cruise to the Bahamas. When she saw me she was transfixed. We talked all night and she kept commenting on how serene I had become.
"What did you do," she asked. "You are a changed man. "I went on a journey," I said,"a spiritual journey."
I highly recommend that you take such a journey if your goal is to get your ex-girlfriend back.
