Music has a special and important role in every society. Even long, long, long music has been already a part of the lives of the people. It is used for communication, festivities, and rites and in their activities in their daily lives. Until at the present, music is still an inescapable part of our lives in homes, restaurants, bar hotels, buses, cars and everywhere else. And today it is used for political, social and educational purposes.

All over the world, music is produced with different creative musical instruments by different countries. These instruments from country to country vary but all produces rhythm and beat to make up music. At the present, world musical instruments are all over the continents not only held for its historical values but because it can produce different tones and melodies.

Music in Africa is a communal activity; comments on or spreads news on all aspects of African life. The main instruments are drums, rattles, xylophones, harps, lyres, single-string fiddles, flutes and side-blown trumpets. Instruments can be played solo, in groups or to accompany singing and as some instruments in Africa are believed to possess supernatural powers, they act as mediators between people and gods.

In China, the oldest known traditional musical instruments are the zither and lute: today, other instruments are popular such as the 16 stringed zither, bamboo flute, 2 stringed fiddle, dulcimer and oboe. There are large bells and magnificent tuned gongs that can be played singly or in groups of ten or thirteen.

In India, within the classical tradition there is a pre-dominance of string instruments and drums. The main instrument are stick zither, long necked lute, lute with movable frets, long necked lute with wire strings and fiddle played with short bow. The most important drum in India is the tabla. In folk music, flutes, horns and bagpipes are common as well as bells, cymbals, gongs, clappers and rattles I many shapes and sizes.

In Japan, instrumental pieces are usually played for dancing, ceremonies, and the instruments include bamboo flute, drum, small cymbal, bamboo clappers and bells. The instruments played in art music are 13 stringed zither, short necked lute, bamboo flute, bells, drums, rattles and gongs.

In Indonesia, the main instrumental unit in the classical tradition is called gamelan. This is a term for instruments chiefly gong of various sizes. They also use some other musical instruments such as flutes, cymbals and drums.

There are many more world musical instruments that have many differences and similarities. All are made in the intent and purpose of producing musical sounds. It is a proven fact that since way back before up to the present music plays a very important role in our society.
