Turnkey solutions in Internet marketing are further evidence of what separates the professionals from the amateur players. Yes, they're cheaper. Yes, they're easier. However, the one-size-fits-all approach really doesn't work in search engine optimization.
Cheaper and easier does not mean that they're more effective. In fact, if overused, turnkey solutions can be counterproductive. They're not something that you can just put in place and leave alone. There has to be a human touch all the way through.
It's not that turnkey solutions are per se a bad idea. If used appropriately, they, like any tool, can facilitate your marketing campaign. The problem is that many search engine optimization firms will only use the tools as directed, without adding the human element. This is where they go wrong. More often than not, problems will arise, or at least no positive results come out.
The problems you normally encounter when using turnkey solutions ultimately amount to the question of humanity. If your system is fully automated rather than staffed by humans, you can expect a lot of glitches. It can get quite ugly in many cases.
If you just stick with the turnkey solutions, you are in for possibly not being in the right target audience, having the wrong keywords, geting into inappropriate conversation hubs, and many other things. This is one of the places in which the human element comes in handy. They can pick your elements and steer you in the right direction. After all, you wouldn't expect to see Dr. Pepper advertising on a jalapeno forum, would you?
There's also the sheer competition angle. Let's think of it this way; if you and your competitors all used the same turnkey solutions, and nothing else, how would you stand out? Google certainly wouldn't know any different. Automated systems really don't know the meaning of the word, "unique." A human user, however, can figure out how to make your company stand out among the crowd.
There is also a question of overall strategy. Turnkey solutions will have you constantly doing the same thing the same way. The needs in marketing strategy are different for a start up business than for an established one. Strategies also vary from niche to niche. Ultimately, it can be wagered that your strategic needs and goals are going to be unique for your company. This kind of tailoring cannot be done by a singular approach.
Aside from that, as with nearly any tool you will encounter, the intended use of turnkey solutions expires pretty quickly. While they still technically work, the results become pedestrian. It takes a human brain to find new uses for what has become outmoded junk.
All in all, you can expect that the marketing campaign from company to company will need to be different. Turnkey solutions, being used as they were intended, just do not cut the mustard that way. It's the human capacity to reapply the uses of these tools that makes the difference.
