Did you know that the smallest fire can cause a wildfire? Well, it can and it can spread fast as well especially if it is really dry out. It can grow and spread out for miles and damage and destroy everything in sight: plants, trees, animals, homes, people, fields, and many more. It can be caused by the sun, a cigarette, or a campfire, and the wind just makes it worse because it causes it to spread like mad. The smoke from the fire can release dangerous toxins into the air, which affects our breathing and harms our health. A wildfire can damage or burn down hundreds of houses in minutes depending on how bad it is and how fast it is spreading.
Did you know that every year in the U.S., wildfires have burned five million areas? It takes fire fighters hours or even days to get out the fire and a lot of people have helped them put them out. There have been wildfires everywhere like in North Carolina, Florida, Taxes, and Tennessee, and they have been bad and have spread for miles and miles. These fires take away animals' homes, people's homes, and the animals and some people have died from these fires. Every year someone or something has died from a wildfire either trying to get out of it or trying to stop it.
Each time, it costs millions of dollars to fix the damages that the fire has done because trees, plants, homes, and many other things have to be replanted or rebuilt. People have all different names for these fires, such as vegetation fires, peat fires, forest fire, brush fires, hill fires, and wild land fires. These fires can also be started by lightning, people, and volcano eruptions. These can be started at any time day or night. The flames of the fire can reach high in the sky, and you can see it for miles and the flames will be going everywhere and burn everything in sight.
The smoke will be gray and black and hard to see in, and all you can see is smoke and fire. Did you know how fire fighters put out the wildfires if they are too high and big? They use helicopters or planes to fly over the fire, and the planes or helicopters carry chemicals and water to put it out. They fly over it and drop it on the fire to get it out, and they call these chemicals sky jell-o. The chemicals are fire retardants and it really works and the water also puts it out.
