Not a lot of British singers, whether male or female, get the chance to go to America let alone crack it, but this was achieved by one of the UK's best talents Leona Lewis a few years back. Leona was on the 2006 singing competition, X Factor. Her amazing vocal range won her admiration from fans and she went on to win the show and created a huge following for herself.
Simon Cowell realised the talent that he saw and quickly rushed Leona over to the states to promote her to the mass market. Leona became a phenomenal success in the states and realised some breath taking singles which shot to number one both in the UK and American market.
2008's X Factor show again saw a great talented woman audition, Alexandra Burke who auditioned in a previous series got as far as reaching the judges home before she was sent home. A few years later she came back stronger and went on to win the series. One of the most memorable pieces on the show was in the final when Alexandra sang with Beyonce and blew the public away.
After winning the show Alexandra went on to smash the fastest selling single record (beating Leona's debut single, A Moment Like This) and shot straight to number one with Hallelujah. After the success of Leona Lewis, interest in UK's talent has been amazing and now only a few months after winning the show Alexandra Burke has signed a $3.5m deal with American Epic Records.
She will be soon flying to the US to meet Simon Cowell to discuss the best way to move her career forwards. It is rumoured that she may well be taking the same route as Leona by first releasing her debut album a year after she won the show in the UK and then secondly rewriting a few tracks that will suit the American market more and releasing it there.
Can she be as successful as Leona? Who knows, only time can really tell. But in my personal opinion Leona had a voice that could not be beaten, even by the likes of Whitney and Mariah Carey. Alexandra on the other hand has a nice voice but her vocal range is not as advanced, but I am sure with the huge marketing campaign behind her she will become a worldwide success and develop in to a true Diva style performer.
