When you are looking to get into the cool world of djing and becoming a fly DJ, there is tons of different equipment that range from cd players, turntable record players, multi channel mixers, modern mp3 players, and computer made specifically for going out and being a DJ.
When you first start out you will want to begin with getting yourself a source for music. That can be a set of turn tables, a set of CD players or if you want to go a little more high tech a set of mp3 players. It is important to know the strengths and limitations for each of these mediums. For example, turn tables will probably be the only option that will allow you to do things like scratching and that sort of thing.
Now that you have picked out you music source, you will need some kind of mixer to allow you to mix the two turn tables, cd players or whatever other music source you are using. These mixers should also have adjustments for tone levels (bass, treble and mids) as well as volume levels for each music source that you are going to use.
While you are doing your DJ mixes you will need to cue up music from one music source to another and you will need a good set of head phones for the job. The headphones will allow you to listen to one music source silently while the other one is playing for the crowd. You may also want to have a set of headphones that include a good mic as well in order to allow you to talk to the crowd and make various announcements and maybe even sing.
In order to get the sound out to the crowd, you will need an amplifier to amplify the sound to your speakers. This will take the signal from your mixer and boost it into your speakers to hear the sound. This means that you will need a good set of PA speakers as well. The amount of wattage for both your amp and set of speakers will depend on the size of the crowd that you will be playing for. You can also look at powered speakers which eliminates the need for an amp.
Luckily, you should be able to find these types of equipment available in DJ bundles for beginners, intermediates and more advanced DJ musicians. Ask your local music shop!
