What should a man know if he is looking for a long-term relationship? How should a man find a mate that will stick around no matter what?
One of the best pieces of advice a man can take is to stop listening to what they are told women want and start paying attention to what women really show they want.
Look at the kind of men women really chose and the actions from men that they really show they enjoy.
Women, in general, do the opposite of what they say they want. They say they want a man that listens well, and then they date a man that controls the conversation. They say they want a man who makes them laugh, and then they date the serious type with money.
Why do women say they want one thing and then actually do the opposite? It gets back to the physiological reason that motivates a woman to get together with a man in the beginning.
The reason that men and women get together goes back to biology and the "birds and the bees." The concept is to propagate the human species. Even though getting pregnant and having children may not be the first thing on a woman's mind, instinct leads her to size up a man through the dating process as being a good father or not.
Would a good father be someone that always listens to her or a man that will take control, be a good provider and discipline the children when necessary? It would be one who is a confident, take control kind of man...right?
Women want men that can protect and provide for them. They like the security that a man can provide and they need this feeling from their man. Even though a man can get a woman pregnant even into their 90's, a woman has a biological clock that limits how much time she has to reproduce. Because of this biological clock, a woman wants a man who will be around and available for a long period of time.
A woman who is told by a man that he is an engineer instead of a construction worker will get her attention much faster. Why? Because the engineer position will give the woman a much better feeling of security and provision for her children.
But making or having enough money is not all you need. Generosity and being charitable go a long way in a woman's eyes. She will see it as a way of showing that a man will be generous with her and her children. This is one reason why women put such a high value on gifts such as jewelry or perfume.
This is the same reason that women see the engagement ring as one of the biggest and most important purchases of her lifetime. In her eyes, the ring should be the biggest and most expensive that the man can buy, even if he cannot really afford it. It is her one shot to get what she wants and to test what you are willing to give up just for her. It is also a physical sign to her peers that you have made a commitment to her and the family that the two of you may build.
Even though it has been proven that a man can make more money with his brains than his brute strength women are still programmed to equate brawn with the ability to provide and protect. This is one of the reasons that a woman is driven to be more attracted to a construction worker type over someone that wears a pocket protector and works behind a desk all day.
So your best bet is to observe women and their actions, figure out what they want and give it to them.
