Profile of Top Drummer: Tommy Aldridge

Tommy Aldridge was born on August 15, 1950, in Pearl, Mississippi. He is a veteran hard rock and heavy metal drummer. Tommy Aldridge is popular for his work with numerous bands and vocalists. He is most notable being with Black Oak Arkansas, Whitesnake, Ozzy Osbourne and Thin Lizzy.

Tommy Aldridge is one of the most in-demand and well-respected hard rock drummer.

Tommy Aldridge never went to a professional school to learn the drums. Aldridge never had the chance of hiring a private teacher to teach him to play drums, and he never even thought of joining the high school drum band. Aldridge learned to play the drums just by listening to albums by the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix.

Tommy Aldridge started out playing in clubs and at parties, he got his break when he was offered to join Black Oak Arkansas, which is at that time an up and coming southern rock band.

Unfortunately due to some complications, he left the band and began working with Pat Travers. Tommy Aldridge worked with Travers for a few years, did some tours, and was able to sell out a few albums, then he decided to leave for England. Aldridge decided to try living and working in England, and there he met and began working with Gary Moore. Together they were able to put out a couple of records, and it was also during this time that he met Ozzy Osbourne and Randy Rhoads.

Aldridge became the drummer on the exceptional Diary of a Madman tour, and considered working with Randy as the highlight of his career.

During the same year, Tommy began making deals with Rudy Sarzo. Together they started playing around and trying their best to make something happen. The two hired Tony MacAlpine and were able to create a couple of albums.

In spite of the success, it ended up not being a permanent band situation. Aldridge then started hanging around with John Sykes, who was currently in touch with David Coverdale. Together, John and David looked for a solid rhythm break to help support their hard-driving sound, and thankfully, Rudy and Tommy found White Snake.

Tommy Aldridge toured and was having fun living the ultimate rock and roll fantasy; however, it was time to move on. Even though he was playing with White Snake, Tommy is still working as a freelance drummer, and played with numerous bands, including Ted Nugent. Today, Tommy Aldridge is the legend when it comes to double-bass rock drumming.
