To improve the appearance of the various streets surrounding the Greater Toronto Area, different types of dirt or debris which are harmful or dangerous to the public are eliminated through street sweeping.
Street sweeping machines actually do not spread dirt around, but collect them, thus, preventing them from preventing them from entering the different waterways and water drains built under the GTA.
It is important that populated places like Ontario have street sweeping schedules which are followed religiously, because the drainage system is connected to waterways like rivers or streams that are likewise connected to bigger bodies of water like oceans, lakes and harbors. In many instances, street sweeping deters pollutants in the form of debris and dirt from making their way into the natural waterways through the storm or street drains, which are interlinked to the drinking water system of the public. Hence, it deters the adverse effects that dirt coming from residential or commercial streets have on the GTA natural and wildlife environment. Since protecting the entire drainage system by street sweeping also keeps most wildlife habitats safe.
While most would assume that street sweeping is just cleaning dirt off the streets, the fact is that the materials which are eighty percent combination of chemicals that comes in both natural and artificial forms of minerals. The dirt taken from street cleaning is in reality decomposed vegetation, dirt, silt, clay and sand, which in their natural basic form are quite harmless. But since they are found on the streets, they easily combine with other roadside elements in the form of hydrocarbons that comes from vehicles exhausts, trace metals and engine oils that comes from the brake linings of vehicles that normally passes through the streets.
Taking the above information into consideration, if high volumes of such mixtures pass through the drain holes into the drain systems, it would eventually lead to having a toxic and poisonous water system for drinking.
Street sweeping machines in most situations are taken into a sorting facility where the different forms are separated via special shaker machines after careful testing and monitoring of the different types of debris. The machine shakers separate the debris into two types: the large debris and the dirt that comes in small particles.
The large debris are normally comprised of garbage, other manmade things, branches, leaves and which are disposed by means of regular trash collecting system. Others incinerate the large debris at an incinerating plant. While the dirt part taken from street sweeping is generally used for landfill, making it an essential factor for land filling methods.
The promotion of an environmentally conscious project more or less involves street sweeping and not only through recycling methods, because the enhancement and safeness of the Greater Toronto Area requires all forms and systems of street cleaning and proper equipment in the form of a street sweeper. A conservative form of sweeping machine comes with a rotary broom, water sprinkler tanks, vacuum pumps and a storage container for the sweepings. Since most dirt and other forms of litter generally build up along the street edges, the vehicle is right hand driven with two cross-section passes and of elevated or high density. A higher density form of vehicle has the capacity to carry a larger volume of debris and produces minimal litter upon transport. Such technique is less expensive and performs better control than transferring of load to another vehicle.
