Since GTA is one of North America's fast growing economic areas, developments continue to be built around the region. The city of Toronto is pretty much concerned about the well-being of all its residents hence programs and policies are aimed to improve the air quality in the city. The Transportation Services Department is committed to be a part of this project by eliminating vehicle idling, installing energy efficient street lights, and introducing a new way of street and parking lot sweeping.
Looking for better methods to clean parking lots, streets, parks, and gardens, the Transportation Division of Toronto, Ontario are adding more street and parking lot sweeping devices. Road cleaning and sweeping fleets are making their way to a more advanced technology. But how can these machineries help in the city's aim to clean and improve the quality of the air?
According to studies made, a major source of air pollution is coming from fine road dusts usually housed in parking lots and busy roads. The dusts come from asphalt, rubber tires, garbage, etc from vehicles. Most of these dusts are accumulated in parking lots and a simple parking lot sweeping can not remove fine dusts a 100 per cent. Their ability is limited to removing dirt which is seen by the naked eye. This is where the new parking lot sweeping machines come in.
The new advanced sweepers are capable of removing up to 90% of fine dust from parking lot surfaces. When these parking lot sweeping devices are able to remove this amount of dust, there will be a substantial change in the city's air quality. The benefits don't stop there, there's more. Since advanced parking lot sweeping cleans fine dust, it will reduce the amount of dirt being washed down into the sewer systems. Not only is the air quality improved, the cost for a more extensive water treatment is reduced.
Improvement in both air and water quality will help the general health of the people of Toronto and tourists who are visiting all year round. Cases of respiratory and cardiovascular diseases will be decreased since exposure to fine particulate matter in the air will be solved by parking lot sweeping machines.
