As our skin ages, it loses elasticity and collagen fibers in the dermal layer which can lead to wrinkles. A face lift can move and tighten tissue but does very little for eliminating wrinkles. Chemical & laser peels are the most effective way to remove wrinkles.
Chemical peel uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. It is helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation.
Phenol, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and alphahydroxy acids (AHAs) are used for this purpose. The precise formula used may be adjusted to meet each patient's needs. Although chemical peel may be performed in conjunction with a facelift, it is not a substitute for such surgery, nor will it prevent or slow the aging process.

Recovery time is immediate for superficial peels (the so-called "lunchtime" peel), five to eight days for medium peels, and ten to fourteen days for heavy peels. The recovery time is slightly shorter with the laser but the results are a bit inferior to a chemical peel in terms of wrinkle improvement.
Although there is significant swelling for the first two or three days, pain is seldom experienced after the first night with modern recovery techniques.
