Depending on where your surgery takes place, you will either go home that day or spend a day or so in the hospital. After your surgery, you will probably feel tired and sore for a few days, but you should be up and around in 24 to 48 hours or less. Plan on having someone pick you up after surgery. If you have children, arrange for their care during this time.
Before you come home from your surgery, patients will have their surgeon make suggestions for you to following. Plenty of ice, as well as suitable containers for it, such as freezer bags (frozen fruit and veggies work, too). Alternatively, you can use freezable cold packs. Plenty of loose, comfortable blouses or shirts, which button down.
Every woman who has breast implant surgery feels some discomfort. Your level of discomfort varies and will range from mild to severe. These sensations will last anywhere from a few days to several weeks. The amount and length of discomfort also depends upon the size and placement of the implants, as well as the technique and experience of your surgeon.
After breast implant surgery, it's also quite common to experience a little numbness from bruised nerves in and around your breast area. Most of this should pass over time, as you heal. After surgery, you may experience some swelling and tenderness. To help reduce swelling, your surgeon may suggest cold packs. Your stitches will either dissolve on their own in about a week to 10 days, or your surgeon will remove them. Your scars may be firm and pink for at least six weeks, and may even get bigger. However, they will begin to fade after several months.
New advances make recovery faster than ever before. You should be able to resume your everyday activities within a few days, but you shouldn't lift anything heavy for at least four weeks. Talk to your surgeon to determine when you can return to exercise.
Looking ahead after your surgery is an exciting time. Make sure you get your required mammograms and your three-year post-op MRI. During mammography screening, be sure to tell your technician that you have implants. Keep your Patient ID implant card(s) and Patient Planner somewhere safe for future reference. Submit your optional warranty form. Complete and return your device tracking form.
As always with any surgery, its important to talk to your surgeon and understand what is expected and what you should to after the surgery.
