Dry Skin Creams - The Smart Guide to Healthy, Beautiful Skin

Are you aware that the anti-dry skin cream is part of a multi-billion dollar cosmetics industry? That only shows how people really want to look better and younger. Modern societies now allow people to have easy access to countless skin care products. A mall is not complete if it does not have a skin care product line. Despite the abundance of these products in the market, we still hear people complaining about utter ineffectiveness of their skin care creams in treating dry skin, for example. Some consumer complaints also allege that, instead of improving wrinkled skin, those dry skin creams did nothing save doing more harm.

So, what makes an effective cream against dry skin? Some helpful pieces of information first.

How dry skin develops

Dry skin develops because of lack of moisture on the stratus corneum, the uppermost layer of your skin. Either the skin layer could no longer hold water content more efficiently or it has diminished capacity in absorbing the same. This could be brought about by many factors. Among those major reasons are our natural aging process, overexposure to the direct rays of the sun, smoking, caffeine, insufficient consumption of foods rich in essential micronutrients, use of products laden with harsh chemicals, etc. These factors diminish the ability of our body in replenishing collagen molecules resulting to low collagen levels. They also inhibit the skin's water holding capability.

The most commonly found ingredient found in a truly effective anti-dry skin cream is emollient. It is a substance which softens and soothes the skin layers. This is widely used in many cosmetic products, such as lipstick, lip gloss and skin care creams. It has three basic functions, as follows:

1. Occlusion. It helps provide an extra layer of oil on the skin surface to prevent further loss of water. In so doing, moisture content of the skin is increased.
2. Humectant. This pertains specifically to emollient's ability in helping the skin retain more water and improve its water holding capacity.
3. Lubrication. Makes the skin surface slippery to help it glide easily and prevent further damage.

Use all natural ingredients and avoid harsh chemicals

Remember that noting compares to all natural ingredients. They do not contain harmful chemicals and other synthetic compounds that may cause damage to your skin. You have to be extra careful when choosing your dry skin cream. Check the labels very well. A good skin care product should completely list its ingredients. Watch out for petroleum, alcohol or DEA content. Also known as Diethanolamine, DEA combines with amines to form nitrosamines, a widely known cancer causing compound. Many manufacturers still use DEA on various skin care products because it gives creamy texture and easy foaming action when applied. Avoid also those with fragrances. A good dry skin cream need not be fragrant. They can deteriorate further your dry skin condition.

Many good dry skin creams have natural ingredients on them. Check if they contain essential substances, such as avocado oil, grape seed oil, macadamia oil, Coenzyme Q10, Makuna Honey and Nano-Lipobelle, among others. Aside from improving your dry skin condition, these also contain useful micronutrients that promote better health and balance of the skin.

So, what are you waiting for now? Grab one of those all natural dry skin cream and you will be a step closer to restoring your smooth and glowing skin.
