Factors That Affects Your Chances Of Getting Stretchmarks During Pregnancy

If you're one of the mum-to-bes worried about getting stretchmarks during your pregnancy, rest assured that you're not alone. Stretchmarks is one of the most common issues facing pregnant ladies and the main question they have is this :"will I get it?". They've probably seen their mums and sisters inflicted with those ugly lines and are concerned if they've inherited the genes.

What are Stretch Marks?

If you're one of them, don't panic! Stretchmarks is common. About 50% of all expectant moms get stretchmarks during their pregnancy. As a matter of fact, there are conditions where about ninety percent of women surveyed have stretchmarks during their pregnancy period. A.k.a. striae gravidarum, stretchmarks arise as a result of the hormonal changes' impact on the skin when it is extended too fast to accommodate the growing baby. They are in reality little rips in the elastin fibre network which accommodate the skin and permit it to stretch. Stretchmarks might change in accordance to one's complexion. Ladies of darker color are likely to have lines in a fainter tone while lighter skinned women's stretchmarks is inclined to be scarlet or pink.

It's common to see stretchmarks coming out on physical body areas like the bosoms, upper thighs, hips or buttocks on the third or fourth trimesters because that is the period when the stomach begins growing. Although they do not result in any harm or pain and will sooner or later fade over time, women are sensitive to them as these stretchmarked lines can be rather ugly. Who will like to put on bikinis with those unattractive stretchmarks flaunting?

Who Are Most Susceptible To Getting Stretchmarks During Pregnancy?

Well, It has long been suggested that one's genetic makeup have a role to play. The reality is, since stretchmarks are caused by the hormonal changes during pregnancy which in turn affects the flexibility in one's skin and that itself has an association with one's genes, you are likely to get intense stretchmarks during your pregnancy if your mum did.

Other issues have to be taken into consideration too. E.g., you're more likely to get stretchmarks if you are having triplets or twins. That's because your stomach will expand much more than mums with single births. The same gives if your child is big.

The additional weight you acquire during your gestation period and the velocity in which you take on the extra pounds can also increase your odds of getting stretchmarks. Our skin is rather flexible and can manage quite a considerable amount of stretching. But in the event this gets rather drastic in a pretty fast speed, stretchmarks occurence can be quite likely.

Here's a summary of additional factors that you might get stretchmarks :

- In the event you are already obese before your pregnancy or have accumulated quite a big amount of weight quickly during the period.
- If you have a history of stretchmarks (either during your puberty, or in a preceding pregnancy).
- If you are not as nourished or well hydrated.
