Just a few days ago, I come across a very interesting collagen mask product ad. The ad claimed the mask to be able to restore sagging wrinkled skin into younger looking one once again. It uses terms like deep moisturizing, intense hydrating and also talks about how the collagen can permeate into your skin.
So is there is any truth in it? Before I answer this question, let's try to first understand the reasons why our skin loses its elasticity and strength.
As we age, our skin texture changes. This transformation can cause severe reduction in the level of collagen and elastin in our body. As you may already know, collagen is the basic supporting block to our dermis. It is the main protein in our tissue responsible for ensuring our skin stays healthy and pliable.
Collagen in our body gradually ebbs by close to 2 per cent each year when we are in the mids 20s. By the time you reach your 50s, your collagen level will be halved. And whenever collagen recedes, the elastic fibers of your skin are affected. This change causes our skin to lose its flexibility and strength as well. More importantly, you will start to see unwanted skin aging problems such as wrinkles and sagging skin.
So can a collagen mask help to restore the "lost" collagen? Unfortunately the answer is a plain no. Honestly, I am not lying. Science has already proven it - collagen molecules are way too big to be able to penetrate into our skin. If they can't get in, they just can't do anything to boost your skin.
So what are your options to having great looking skin? What kind of ingredients should you look out for?
By any chance, you may have already heard of a natural substance Phystessence Wakame. This ingredient found in some anti-aging skin care product is actually otherwise commonly known as Japanese sea kelp. A popular skin care ingredient in Japan, Wakame has helped many Japanese women to achieve clear and young looking skin. Phystessence Wakame contains a special ability to stimulate your body to "re-create" collagen growth, which brings you better looking skin.
Another ingredient you should investigate futher is Cynergy TK. Orginated from New Zealand, it contains a protein called Keratin - which can fire up your body to generate more collagen and elastin. Cynergy TK was found to be effective in enhancing skin firmness, improved elasticity and superior moisture retention. It can penetrate deeply into the underneath dermis layers, thereby supporting the skin's protein structure and slowing down the skin aging process.
