According to scientists the world's oceans could rise 1 meter by the year 2100 all because of global warming. I don't think too many of us can disagree that the glaciers of the world are reducing in size, the question is why? Is this truly something caused by humans or is this simply the earth going through another phase.
The problem with this argument is that there isn't enough evidence to suggest we are responsible or not, we may never know. I am all for going "green" really I am, what I have a problem with are people making decisions, conclusive decisions about what is happening or has happened without proof. Those that believe we are responsible have in my opinion become blind to any open discussion about the fact that maybe we aren't the reason it is happening. There is evidence that certainly suggests we truly underestimate how little we do impact earth, water vapor alone is the cause of 95% of the carbon being released into the atmosphere.
For me there is always a positive to any negative situation and the fact that going green and being concerned about the environment in general is nothing but positive. My family and friends are all conscious about their impact on the earth and for good reason. Regardless of global warming the amount of garbage most first world nations produce is shocking, we all need to reduce the amount of waste we contribute on a daily basis. The three R's have been around for awhile but this clever green slogan makes so much sense! Reduce, reuse and recycle and in that order. I think if we all think about reducing we will win and the environment that we live in will dramatically improve.
Here is something else to think about when talking about going green and global warming. I think this has the ability to impact the earth and our overall health the more than anything else. Eat locally grown and produced food. That's it, I really believe this one act has the ability to change the world. Eating local reduces transportation which eliminates billions of tons of green house gases. Local usually means organic or close to organic and in the end that mean less chemicals. There are some that believe some of the largest and most negative single impacts on the earth has come from fertilizers and pesticides. Think about it for a second, when a farmer sprays the fields with these chemicals they not only get into the food they leach into the ground. Eventually these chemicals go into the water table and gradually leak into the ocean. The largest benefit to eating local, it tastes better! We can do this for somewhat selfish reasons and that's ok, reduce the impact on the earth and tantalize our taste buds, win, win!
There are indeed changes that need to be made, blaming all of the world's problems on the humans at this point doesn't seem right. We need more research to verify these claims, in the end reducing our consumption overall is something we should have done for a long time!
