Free Internet Marketing - Effectively Utilizing Online Classifieds

There are 3 factors that come into play with online classified advertising. The first is finding the right locations to post. You have to understand that I cannot simply tell you my favorite sites, because if I did they would lose their potential. If everyone swarms to a certain medium, it gets overcrowded, your ads will lose position faster, and you will have a greater level of competition. It is best to find a classified site that has not been saturated by competitors in your specific market. To find sites, use your favorite search engine and do a search for "free classifieds," or something similar. Start at the top of the results page (these will often have the highest traffic which you want) and do a little research within the site. See the types of advertisements that are being posted in the categories you would likely post in. See how many possible categories there are that would allow you to reach your market. Is anyone promoting your same program or product? Use your judgment to decide whether a site has really great potential, or poor potential, in which case you should move to the next listing in the results.

The next factor in free online classified advertising that many people tend to overlook is WHEN you decide to post ads. This has two parts, the first is the time of day, and the second is the days of the week. Internet traffic (the total numbers of users online at any given time) fluctuates greatly at different times of day as well as the days if the week. It is advantageous, at least it has been for me, to schedule my advertising around the highest traffic times of the day, and also to put more effort in on the days of the week that see the most traffic.

Daily traffic is the highest at around noon, and stays relatively high until around 10:00 p.m. It then drops very low, and stays there until around 9:00 a.m., and is steady until noon where it once again reaches the highest point. At the highest traffic times, your ads have the greatest chance of being seen by the greatest amount of people. New ads are always posted above existing ads, and so throughout the day (or hours depending on the number of posters) your ad gets lowered down into less prominent positions. Because of this, I have always had the best results (way better in fact) when I made it a point to post my ads at times with the best traffic (early afternoon has always worked best for me.)

As I mentioned, the days of the week also have a high (very high) fluctuation in Internet traffic. Tuesday is way ahead of any other day in terms of traffic. It then decreases daily through Saturday, the lowest traffic day. Sunday bumps up a little, and Monday makes another large upward climb. Then Tuesday rolls around and the traffic skyrockets, and then the process repeats. Whenever I utilize classifieds, I make it a point to post on a daily basis. Saturday being the lowest traffic day obviously gets the least amount of attention, usually just a couple posts to my favorite sites. Tuesday is a bigger day, and I try and post to as many spots as I know of, and really get compensated nicely for my efforts.

The last part to successful classified Internet marketing is the most critical. In fact, no matter how great the sites you post on are, or how perfect you plan your timing, without this nothing matters. Creating an ad that inspires a click is where an ad campaign is either brilliantly successful, or put to an early grave. There are two parts that make up an effective ad, THE HEADLINE AND THE AD COPY.

THE HEADLINE is by far the most important part of the equation. Why? The headline is the first thing that a potential lead sees, and the only thing they see if the headline does not compel them to click on the ad. You can have the best ad copy (the body of the advertisement) but if you don't take time to create a great headline, it won't matter because that ad will practically be invisible. So we come to a simple conclusion.....the headline has got to have POWER.

What creates a powerful headline. Headlines usually work the best when they quickly give the reader a benefit. Face it, we all have one thing on our mind as we scroll ads, "What's in it for me?" Don't beat around the bush, just tell them in an exciting way why they need to view your ad. It is also useful to utilize words that create excitement and emotion. A thesaurus has been a part of my advertising toolbox since the beginning. Remember that a boring headline will get skipped, but a powerful one will inspire action. If a headline is good enough, you ad copy will not even make a difference. The individual may already be convinced by your great headline, and they will look for the link to whatever you are promoting.

Just to make sure that everyone that reads you ad body takes action to click your affiliate or website link, your body copy should further pre-sell your offering, creating excitement and emotion. Just as you do with the headline, you should focus primarily on your potential customer. What do YOU have to offer THEM. A great ad isn't about "me, me , me" it is about "you, you, you." Face it, people aren't interested in you, they are primarily concerned with how they can benefit from you. This isn't a problem, it is an opportunity to tell them exactly how you can benefit them, and therefore compel them to take action.

Funny thing about taking action, MOST PEOPLE WON'T UNLESS PROMPTED! People often respond to direct commands, especially if they are already pre-sold by your headline and body copy. This is simple to do, just tell the reader what action you want them to take. But don't word it in a way that makes you seem pushy, rather make it seem once again like a benefit to them. "Click Here to learn how XXXXX can change your life!!" or "To get started absolutely free visit us HERE today!" Pretty simple right? Yeah it is.
