This article discusses the different forms of marketing used in today's business world. It touches on the traditional forms as well as the recently popular Internet marketing.
When a business owner is looking into the different forms of marketing, it can be a daunting task. There are so many out there and all of them have such great reviews with them that it can be difficult deciding which one is right for the business. One way to make that decision a little bit easier is by understanding the different forms. That way you will be able to eliminate the ones you know won't work for you and go from there. Marketing includes more than just how you promote your business or product. Historically, marketing has been divided in four categories. They are product, pricing, placement and promotion.
All four parts are important for a strong marketing campaign, but your company may want to focus more of your attention on one or a few, depending on your needs. How you market your product depends upon your customers' or potential customers' needs. This part usually includes warranties and help. Pricing, on the other hand, deals with the actual price of the product. Placement also is known as distribution and it refers to how the customers get the product. For example, they can get it online or in a retail store. It also can refer to the geographical location and the demographic.
The marketing aspect many people spend most of their time focused on is the promotion. This includes advertising, publicity and branding. If companies know they have a good product and they know they have it available in good locations, then they spend their time figuring out the promotion aspect of marketing. This is how they can get more attention drawn toward their product, which is what every business wants. Entire teams of people usually make up companies' marketing because they know that is the key to their business success.
Each of the four aspects of marketing is vital parts of a company. Depending on what stage a company is in and what their needs are determines on which aspect they spend the most time. In older times, these four aspects referred only to the traditional type of marketing. This includes print, television and mail. In recent years, with the explosion of the Internet, more focus has been spent figuring out different ways to market online.
