The growing trend that is rapidly receiving attention from most branches of science seems to be looking for new sources of alternative energy. Water movement, vegetable oils and a whole array of extremely different things are being tapped and experimented on to determine if it has the potential to be the new energy source of the century. This focus on energy comes from the desire of the different developed nations in the world to gain power above all the rest. New machinery, computers and advanced technology all require huge amounts of energy. In relation to that, the nation that can provide the most efficient source of energy will have control over something very valuable.
Unfortunately, the people in power have yet to see that all this work and technology can be swept away in one blow. One force that has always been beyond the reach of mankind's technology is the forces of nature, specifically floods. Even in this supposed advanced age, typhoons and hurricanes that bring intense flooding have been able to devastate even the most technologically advanced countries. In effect the flood cleanup and disaster restoration process includes having to rebuild all that expensive machinery, infrastructure and technology.
It seems to be that the most logical move right now is to learn how to cope with this force of nature before anything else. Having to rebuild everything from scratch after a flash flood or disastrous tsunami is just not worth it anymore. A solution has to be figured out to, at the very least, lessen or control the effects of these natural disasters. If this materializes, less time would be needed to complete the flood cleanup and restoration process because the damage would not be as extensive.
Currently, there are institutions that have tried to produce band aid solutions to this problem but none of them are enough. This is because the funding that these research and development teams receive is nowhere near the amount needed to come up with an effective solution. Forecasting techniques for typhoons, earthquakes and tsunamis have much more room to improve on while defenses against floods can be so much more effective. Reality is that priorities are being focused elsewhere which leaves the current technology in adequate to deal with the problem at hand.
Unless this trend changes, the best you can do is to prepare yourselves for the worst. You can expect that flood cleanup procedures and restoration programs will be difficult and frustrating if you are a disaster victim. Unfortunately, that is a fact you will have to live with as you can only hope for a better and safer future.
