Internet Branding In Web 2.0 Properties

When opening Web 2.0 accounts for your business, it is important to make sure that your Internet branding is consistent with your corporate branding. The Internet is full of con artists, and it follows to reason that some would use legitimate corporations as their cover. It is of utmost importance that your overall image is indisputably yours.

To make sure we're on the same page, let's get a clear idea of what Internet branding and Web 2.0 properties are. Internet branding is, in short, your corporate branding translated into an Internet context. That is, your corporate logo, your name, your font, your slogan, and your mascot, if you have one, are all rendered into an electronic format and put on the Internet.

Web 2.0 properties are social media sites. These are blog communities, customer driven shopping sites, online forums, or any other website that involves setting up an account or profile. MySpace, Twitter, Squidoo, YouTube, eBay, and Warrior Forum are examples of Web 2.0 properties. Classically, these have all been used by consumers for the stated purpose of the site, but more recently, marketers have been going to these sites to advertise.

Now the question is, how do we use our Internet branding to distinguish ourselves from the hucksters? First of all, make sure that every scrap of your image is copyrighted in your personal name or your company's name. This can prevent outright theft of your branding, or at least add an additional offense of copyright infringement to a fraud court case.

In every field possible in the account, place as many indications as you can that you are legitimately who you say you are. The URL of your business-website is probably the most powerful form of Internet branding in this case. If you own your domain, it cannot be replicated. To ensure that, when your webpage is set up, make sure that it's unique and, if possible, that it's your company's name.

Of course, your company's images will support this. Your company's logo should be the default user pic. Your company's name should be the user ID. All pictures, audio files, and videos that you upload should be a form of advertisement for your company. Your Internet branding is yours alone, so make use of it as much as you can.

Additionally, your slogan can be used as a catch phrase, title or subtitle of your account. All blog posts should be related to the business, anything personal is contrary to the purpose of your Web 2.0 account. You're here to advertise and you flash your Internet branding; the last thing you really want to do is something that's irrelevant to that purpose.

In this way, you can ensure that you alone are recognized by your Internet branding. Keep everything consistent so you don't confuse your potential customers. Inconsistency is a good way to lose business, so make sure it all works together.
