When doing business with a Chicago courier service you will usually discover that the current preferred method of tracking your delivery is through new online tracking systems. Because using a web based tracking system typically saves time for both the client and the courier company, this has become the preferred method for package tracking. However, the majority of couriers out there still have ways for you to track your package via the telephone. This is useful for any number of reasons. First of all, there are still many places in the world that do not have internet access and where cell phone with internet access may not work properly. In these situations where only a landline can be used, international business men can still find it very helpful to be able to track a package on the telephone. There are also members of the older generation who have resisted the new technology and prefer to stick with methods of tracking packages with which they are more familiar.
There are different methods that a courier service might have in place in order to make it possible for you to track your package on the phone. Many of the older systems, which are still in place at many companies, use an automated phone system which will allow you to key in your tracking code from a touch tone phone and then be given a status update on your package. Some may have even implemented newer voice recognition technology that will allow you to simply speak your tracking code in order to get a report on the whereabouts of your shipment.
Sometimes though, a courier company may decide to do away with a telephone tracking system itself for the most part, and simply find a way to still fulfill the customer's requests through the telephone. For a company with a good online tracking system this is a very simple matter. A customer service representative in this case will simply take the call from the customer of the courier company and obtain the tracking number manually. They can use this number themselves then in the online tracking system and be able to give the customer an up to date report on where their package is at the current time. This might seem at first to be a roundabout way of doing things, but in actuality it is more efficient than sometime preserving a mostly out of date system can be.
