Manual Glass Washing Vs Glass Washers

Time Consuming, inefficient and labourious this is probably a phrase which would best describe some of the tasks which have to be done by bar staff. That was until the introduction of labour saving devices which would in time make working a bar a satisfying job, concentrating more on customer satisfaction rather than on cleaning!

We all know from living at home what a chore the washing up is, especially if you don't have a dishwasher, the potential for breakages when you have slippery hands even more apparent, not to mention the time spent when you could be doing a million and one other interesting jobs.

The bar industry were quite quick to catch onto labour saving devices which in turn saved them money and time, which could be better concentrated in other areas, the invention of glass washers being one of the most important steps forward in bar equipment.

It is not so long ago that a major part of working a bar was cleaning glasses, cleaning glasses by hand was time consuming and inefficient especially in busy bars and clubs where the demand for drinks is particularly high. The need to stock excessive amounts of drinking glasses was necessary for fear of running out due to drinkers demands. Often in busy establishments a member of staff was employed purely for this reason.

These days glass washers take the strain and are in constant use, previously washing by hand would often leave greasy marks on glasses or lipstick marks which are harder to remove simply by rinsing, residue from fruit drinks would often be left in the bottoms of glasses and an abundance of smeary marks would remain due to tea towels quickly becoming sodden in attempts to keep up with demand.

Glass washers however use boiling hot water and detergents which breeze through greasy marks leaving sparkling glasses ready for use. The time saving qualities of glass washers are that they run a cycle which practically takes just a couple of minutes. Often being able to clean up to 30 pint glasses in one cycle.

The way to measure how big a glass washer you require for your establishment is based on basket size with the smaller machines holding a maximum of 12 pint glasses and the largest holding 30. Of course not everyone who frequents a bar will drink a pint, so glasses will vary widely depending on drink consumed. Using pint glasses is simply a rough guide to load size. The more glasses you will need in an hour the bigger basket size you will require.

Glass washers can be easily plumbed in similarly to that of a domestic washing machine, water softeners are often recommended for use in machines in hard water areas as this will avoid scratching and marking of glasses due to the effects of harder water and limescale.

The only drawback to buying glass washers is the initial outlay, as glass washers can be expensive. The argument for this is that a glass washer will save money in other areas such as levels of staff and wages, also cutting back on breakages. There are options to lease bar equipment from reputable equipment suppliers which makes it easy to budget for payments whilst deciding if buying a machine is the route to take.
