How Much Money Do You Spend Smoking Cigarettes And How Much Would It Cost You to Quit

For those of you that are addicted to smoking cigarettes the price just went up again as you all probably already know. The new tax increase has pushed the price of a pack of cigarettes to a all time high of nearly $5.00 per pack and even higher in many states. Back in the 1970's when the price of cigarettes was as little as $1.00 a pack, people were picking up the smoking habit left and right. Many of those same smokers are still buying them today, only they are paying much more for them.

If you are a minimum wage worker earning around two sixty a week, buying cigarettes now is like investing into a new car or something of that nature. Being a smoker, you are paying about forty to fifty dollars a week in just cigarettes, this is around twenty percent of your income! The majority of all smokers are in the minimum wage law bracket or just above it. After a worker in this bracket has had taxes taken out of their check, the amount of money that is left for them to be able to pay their bills is just not enough. For anyone to get by on the amount they have left is not a great deal and add an addiction like smoking and they will never stand a chance of saving any money.

What can they do to get their life back instead of staying at home feeling guilty because they have an addiction to cigarettes that cost them so much money each week? Most smokers want to quit smoking, so they can have their paychecks back to enjoy instead of spending it on a product that has increased by five times? Is there any resolution for the majority of people who smoke and fall into this category? Of course there is if they really want to put the effort into quitting that it takes most people.

There is some hope for smokers out there with the addiction of smoking cigarettes. There are many options available to help you quit smoking. Cold turkey works for very few people. Trying things like nicotine gum, nicotine patches, prescription medications, support groups, or just stepping down gradually are all methods you can try. There is a product recently developed called the electronic cigarette. It tremendously reduces the numbers of chemicals that can be found in regular cigarettes, it has no tar, and it can be used as an aid to stop smoking the real ones. We will just have to wait and see what happens with the future of this product.
