Smoking Cigarettes Is Stealing Your Retirement Money

As Americans, one of our goals in life is to retire with enough savings to live the remainder of our life in the security of our own home. This just seems to be the American way to retire you might say or at least these are our intentions to accomplish. Maybe have enough money saved to be able to take a vacation or two after your working days have ended, but if you are a smoker, the old American dream has now become almost unreachable.

For the smokers out there that have been struggling to just make ends meet at the end of the month, you know how hard is to save money. Especially when you are trying to support an addiction to cigarettes at the same time. The amount of money that is spent on cigarettes over a lifetime can add up to a shocking amount of money. If smoker would sit down and figure out the total that they have spent in just the last five years or so, it may just be enough encouragement to make them want to quit.

Having taken a look at the price of cigarettes in the last few weeks, smokers are now beginning to really realize what they are now faced with when it comes to the money aspect of smoking cigarettes. The latest increase in cigarette prices will take a chunk out of your budget for weekly expenses ,let alone your retirement. A smoker is already at a disadvantage when it comes to saving money especially when they are losing so much of their money each week to cigarettes. The smoking addition is a very tough one to break and will take a good effort or even a the help of a doctor to escape the habit.

If you are in the middle age bracket and have plans to retire with some kind of security in the future, then a change of plans may be in order here. If you and your spouse both smoke, it can cost as muck as 100 hundred dollars a week depending on what you pay for a pack of cigarettes. With this much money waste, your savings plan can not possibly grow with the prices of everything continuing to soar as well. So, if you are serious about your retirement and the things you and your spouse have always dreamed of, then there is no doubt that cigarettes have got to go in order to reach those retirement dreams. If you continue to smoke, you just might not live to see them at all.
