The Truth about the Internal Gear Hub

Bicycles are supposed to be the simplest mode of transportation. Basically, you just get on it, maintain your balance, and pedal. Some people enjoy riding a bike, since it is fun to do, is an awesome form of exercise, and cool mode of transportation. Of course, bicycles these days are far more complex than the ones from before. The parts of modern bicycles are there to advance the performance of bicycles, while other parts simply enhances one's riding experience, such as the internal gear hub or IGH.

This IGH, together with the shaft drive, make bicycles easier to operate and maintain. Therefore, even if you're riding your bike on rough terrain or under a heavy downpour, you can be sure that it would still function well. In reality, the IGH streamlines the mechanism of newer bike models. This has taken the place of derailleur and external sprockets. If there were no IGH, all you'll see on your bike are gears and more gears. IGH reduces the gears on your bike by about 50%-80%, so there is more room for intuitive shifting.

The internal mechanism of the IGH is sealed and protected from the elements. What this proves is that the internal gear hub requires little maintenance and wouldn't sustain expenses where repairs are concerned, not like when your bike has derailleur and sprockets. A chainless bike is a perfect example that the IGH and the shaft drive are combining to provide bike riders a unique mixture of performance and minimalism.

Aside from making your bike low maintenance, the linear form of the IGH also makes it easy to operate. It also allows you to shift the bike while at a stop. Of course, since it provides a clean chain line, your bike looks visually pleasing. Naturally, when there are advantages, there has to be disadvantages as well. One disadvantage of the internal gear hub is that it can make the bike heavy. Furthermore, the IGH's gear range is restricted unlike bikes with derailleur, and if something bad happens to the bike, you'd have to check it into the bike shop for repairs.

Hence, are you now set to trade in your trusted bicycle with a chainless one? Well, if you want utmost comfort while riding your bike, then maybe it's high time you tried one with an IGH.
Author Resource:- Do you want to find out more about the internal gear hub, touted as the newest in bike mechanism? There are websites where you can learn more about it, and at least gain insight on the advantages of shifting from gears and chains to a chainless bike.
