There has been a music revival phenomenon taking place recently, with boy band favourites that were popular during the 1990s topping the wish list. Concert listings offer a plethora of acts that remind me of opening up a copy of smash hits back when I was a teenager and had a bedroom adorned with posters of fair faced young men in ripped jeans. This penchant for bringing back the big bands of the time has made a huge impact on my generation, as twenty and thirty something's clamour for concert tickets. Such big events are now aimed at high earning professionals, and tickets for the likes of Boyzone are selling like hot cakes.
Part of growing up inevitably involves interest in music and romance, but as the school years fade into distant memories, work takes over and we become more interested in purchasing ISA's and getting mortgages. That is why, when bands that were popular when we were at school announce a reunion tour, we are prepared to take a slice of our monthly wage packet and indulge in a trip down memory lane. Hospitality packages are available for the concerts are ideal for a reunion of a different sort.
Boyzone were the biggest boy band in the 1990s, commanding a massive 20 record sales from a succession of number one hits. They were famed for a somewhat dodgy introduction to the music scene, appearing on an Irish talent show as a dance troupe. The now cringe-worthy performance has had little effect on the popularity of the band, and after being discovered by Louis Walsh, of X Factor fame, they became the stereotypical template for all boy bands that followed.
Traditional school reunions are often held at the place of education, and everyone has a chance to boast about the achievements that they have made, and have a good nose into the progress of old school mates. This can be quite a contrived and uncomfortable affair, especially if you haven't risen to the top of the career ladder and have nothing much to shout about. Deciding to have a reunion between old friends at an event that brings back happy memories is a much nicer way to catch up, and have a genuinely nice time.
Hospitality packages for bands such as Boyzone offer a chance to attend a private party and collect some must have souvenirs, and also re-live childhood dreams. This beats a table of vol au vents in an old school hall by miles, surrounded by people you'd maybe rather not see. Most excitingly, there is more chance than there was at the age of thirteen of finally getting the attention of a Boyzone heartthrob. Ronan may be married, but I'm still sure that I can persuade him to take me as his wife!
