Instead of showing the signs to your child from the book’s pages, try to create signs on your own. The process of creating signs is easy and fast. All you need is a cardboard, some crayons, glue and wooden craft sticks. First you have to cut the cardboard into different sign shapes such as cycle, triangle, square, etc. Make sure you have all possible signs (or at least the most of them). Once you are finished with the cutting part, use the crayons and color the signs into the correct color. Then, make use of the glue to attach the wooden part at the back of each sign.
After you have created the signs, show them to your child. Hold up the signs in front of him and tell him the name of each sign.
Explain your child the meaning of the sign’s color
You have to give explanation to your child that the color of the sign’s background shows a certain message. For an example, the red color is usually used for stop or yield signs. The yellow color is used for warning signs such as for signs that indicate schools nearby. The blue sign’s color tells the travelers about the nearest restaurant, hotel and gas station. The brown color is used for campsites and cultural attractions. The orange is used for giving information about a construction on the road and so on.

Children must know that each sign can give various type of information depending on its shape. For an example, the octagon sign shape gives information to the drivers what they must do (this shape is used for “Stop” signs). Test your child’s knowledge about the traffic signs by playing games
After you have introduced your child with the traffic signs, you have to be sure he understood your lessons correctly. The best way to check his understanding of the traffic signs is to involve him in some traffic game. If you are fan of homemade games, try to play “Street sign obstacle game”. For this game, you have to hang out the signs in your room or backyard. Your child will have to follow the signs such as: “Turn left”, “Dead end”, “Stop”. If the player passes the obstacles, he gets points for right interpretation.
