Going through life with the fear of making the wrong decision must be difficult and these people often find themselves drawn to others to whom taking command seems natural, and then they can relax and go through life knowing that somebody else will take control and ,more importantly, take the flak if things go wrong! Being in the second category, I find it hard to relinquish control to another, especially regarding options dealing with long term commitments.
I recall that when I left high school and had to decide on a course of further study at a college, I was the only student who had a clear idea of what I actually wanted and the route that I would have to take to get there. I knew that I had always wanted a career in the field of medicine in some capacity or other and this was not just due to the fact that in our family there were many doctors and medical professionals.
There was something about the medical field which had appealed to me from a young age when we used to go and visit my mother in hospital after the birth of a sibling or when she or someone else had been ill. The whole atmosphere and smell of a hospital and the way that the public treated the doctors and nurses made me want to become one of them and breathe the rarefied air that they did.I chose my courses with care and when I had passed with the grades I needed, I had to decide which university was going to be my destination to continue with my education in the field of medicine.
The first decision which I had to make was to decide if I wished to stay in my own country or city, or move abroad to complete my studies. In the end I chose to leave home for a few years since I thought that this would give me an education in other areas as well as academic. I did some research and after convincing my parents to loosen the apron strings, I decided to start applying to suitable establishments and institutes offering my courses.
