A long hair style has long been equated with femininity, and in the traditional sense, although throughout different time periods men had worn their locks long, they never trailed down nearly as far as womens did. Take the middle ages, for example. We often see that men had hair that would be worn just down to or even past their shoulders, but the women beat that out by sporting a mane that trailed a good ways past their waistlines. The only notable exception in recent times to this unwritten rule is Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, but lets face it; not everyone can be a pirate with a long hair style and get away with it like Jack.
A long hair style seems to always be one of the huge fashion trends, and it seems that no matter what time period is the topic of discussion, this look was always considered in. There have been a lot of variation as to what women would do with those tresses, and there are quite a few different looks and cuts that make longer locks extremely versatile and easy to manipulate. Although long hair is not right for every womans tastes, for many it provides beauty and style to their attractiveness.
One of the hottest trends today in long hair styles is the soft, textured, layered look. Classified by soft layers that fall nicely from the top at different lengths, this look adds a lot of buoyancy and bounce to hair and takes off a lot of weight that heavy manes create. Many women who live in warmer climates who cannot part with their longer hairstyles choose to get layers for that reason the look is still the same but there is a much lighter feel to it. Although dumping sprays, creams, and gels all over the head was certainly the trend in the 1980s, the trend today is quite the opposite there is no room for crunchy or crispy looking locks. Styles need to look and feel soft and smooth, and as long as the hair is healthy and not buried under styling products, it will generally look great.
Although the layered, light look is hot for long hair styles, the blunt cut, straight across cut is also back in style after a disappearance for the last several years. Bangs seem to be trying to work their way back into fashion as well, led by many female celebrities who are opting to ditch the front long tresses for the shorter look above the eyes.
It seems that no matter how the look is cut, color is more important than ever. Slowly but surely the bold and bright colors are making their way onto runways and fashion shows, and just as popular are highlights and chunking a deeper base color with lighter blonde and brunette tones. Every length hairstyle is following this trend, and whether we are talking about short ones or long hair styles, men or women, the days of flat, single colored hair are over at least for now.
