What does the future of electricity hold. That depends on who you talk to. No matter what, if approached from the right direction, it can be very exciting. How exciting depends on whether you are willing to take control of your future and empower yourself, or whether you want to sit around and let the utility companies dictate your future for you. They will charge you for it and continue to dirty your environment if you let them.
It would be great not to have any wires in your home. Impossible you say, research is already ongoing for wireless electricity. Last year, a team at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology successfully demonstrated wireless electricity in a controlled experiment. This dream has never been far-fetched, and with the success of wireless electricity experiments, this dream will soon come true. In the not too distant future your phone will charge itself without plugging in. Cool!
You will control your energy supply. We will much greater control over shutting down appliances and powering down our home. Those of us who are more adventurous will be generating our own power and selling the clean energy to our neighbors. Industry experts believe that in future, your power supply will not be dependent on the electricity department but on you.
In the future, energy will come from clean renewable sources. We can speed this future up. Responsible citizens are already generating their own clean power and reducing their bills.
Do you know that the remains of electricity production emit enormous amounts of carbon dioxide in the air? Currently, your power comes from declining stores of fossil fuels that pollute the environment and cause sickness, disease, and global warming. How long do you want to remain part of that system?
All things will be electric! OK, we have already seen electric cars and electric shavers, what else will the future see? May be, electric shoes! Combs, toothbrushes, watches, glasses, even clothes may become electrical gadgets. If these sound far-fetched ideas, visit the futuristic shops at Akihabara in Japan for a glimpse of the future.
Electricity will become more dependable. Smart grids will route power to where it is needed. Improved storage technologies will result in banked power supplies so that production can be averaged out and avoid the spikes in cost and the resulting shortages. If you take control of your power and deploy solar or wind power in your home, the future can be much sooner that you realize. We have to empower ourselves to control the future and make a better world for ourselves and our children. What will your power future look like?
