The demand for power is growing by leaps and bounds while the sources of traditional energy are dwindling. We hear talk of renewable energy sources. What does that mean? In simple terms it means using a source or resource to develop energy that does not deplete and can be used over and over again. For example, the sun shines everyday. Using sunlight to generate energy does not deplete the amount of sunshine. Another renewable source of energy is the wind. Harnessing the power of the wind does not deplete the amount of wind or air in world. The other advantage of wind and solar energy is that they are, wait for it, FREE.
So you are thinking that all sounds well and good but the energy company supplies power to my house. I don't have to worry about where my energy comes from, I just pay my bill. It is time for us to take charge of our own power. The utility companies are moving slowly to clean up our planet and charge us money while they dirty our air and pollute our streams.
You can, in fact, generate your own power, cleanly, and reduce your bills at the same time. It is a win win situation. This article discusses wind power and the conditions that are favorable for generating your own wind power.
Just keep in mind that wind is not your only option for free, clean power. Solar power and wind power are the two of the most efficient systems that can replace the conventional power in our homes.
Traditional thought dictates that wind power works best under the following conditions: you have at least an acre of land; the average wind speed in your area is around 11 miles per hour; and you have favorable zoning. Wind has traditionally been deployed in rural areas. Doing some research reveals that there are great developments in the usage of vertical turbines and various blade designs that get effective windmills at wind speeds of as low as five miles per hour. Even if all of the conditions are not favorable for replacing all of your power, intelligent deployment of a wind system can still work to reduce, if not, eliminate, your power bill. If you stay in a place that has very little wind flow, you will want to consult an expert before installing the wind power solution at home.
A typical wind power system is made up if a tower, the blades (of many and various designs), a generator, and a power storage system. The height of the tower is determined by your specific conditions and the applicable zoning at your home. Using a wind generator, this wind energy can be converted into useful electrical energy that will run your electrical appliances. You can also store the electricity in batteries for use when the wind is not blowing. You will need an inverter to convert the power to household current. Some enterprising folks rewire their homes and appliances to run on twelve volt systems which are more energy efficient and environmentally friendly. How far you want to go is up to you. Even little steps to create clean energy can have a big impact. If everyone takes one step, soon we have collectively taken made millions of steps. Don't delay, get started on your on clean energy system and clean up the planet and save money.
