I won't say that I always knew about SERPs or SEO or even Search Engine analytics - because I didn't. But we all have to start somewhere. Now if you have a website online and you make money or some sort of a profit from this website - you need visits, traffic and good SERPs. SERPs is one of the best ways TO get traffic and sales from your website. But what is a SERP? How do we get ours under control? What facets does it contain? First things first. A search engine results page, or SERP, is the listing of web pages returned by a search engine in response to a keyword query. The results normally include a list of web pages with titles, a link to the page, and a short description showing where the keywords have matched content within the page.
A SERP may refer to a single page of links returned, or to the set of all links returned for a search query. Okay that's easy, right?!? In order to get a SERP you should have keywords associated with your URL. You can also do this with backlinking, SEO, SEM, Article Marketing, blogging, social book marking, etc. If I listed all the ways - we would be here forever. So just take those examples for now! When you have keywords associated with your URL the engines look at that and pretty much "chalk" you up as having a backlink. Backlinks (or back-links (UK)) are incoming links to a website or web page. In the search engine optimization (SEO) world, the number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page (though other measures, such as PageRank, are likely to be more important).
Outside of SEO, the backlinks of a web page may be of significant personal, cultural or semantic interest: they indicate who is paying attention to that page. Anyone can use keywords or phrases to get SERPs but the important thing here is to pick the perfect keywords. If you want to pick stuff like truck, car, auto. You can. But you will also have about a zillion other people either bargaining for that word or... something better. In order to choose a better keyword - look at the results on the Engines. If you are vying for a keyword that gets 60 million results - pick a new one! One other thing you could do is find a company that will allow you to buy/use something to Monitor Google.
If you are monitoring Google you are watching what all your other competitors are doing. If they change a keyword - you will know about it. If they keep using the same keyword and have good results - you will know about it! This gives you the ultimate power. Now instead of being on page 5,987,123 for the keyword "Car Parts For The Audi 500" you can be on the first or second page with the other big dogs. Being on the first and second pages of the engines is THE most important thing. It's a proven fact that when you are on the first and second pages of the engines - you will get more attention from searchers. It's even BETTER of you are on the first page of the engines because hardly anyone will go past page #2.
So if you are on page number one you will get a ton of visits which will result in conversions or sales! This is what you want! If you want more traffic, visits and sales?!? Look at your SERPs or find a website online that will allow you to use a web application to monitor Google and your competition!
