Having visited the music shop and purchased that coveted acoustic guitar that you have been saving for months and months, you drag the instrument back home complete within its nice new leather hardback case and carefully unveil the wooden stringed musical delight within. As your hands begin to shake and heart begins to pound in its excited inquisitive manner, your face drops as you realise that you do not know how to play this thing you are holding in your hands.
The problem further mounts up when you realise that you had spent most of your savings on the actual guitar and that you are not in the rightful position to pay for acoustic guitar lessons. This is a dilemma that many would-be or could-be musicians face - the tribulations of financing their musical lessons. In short searching for a personal musical tutor could cost some people between 20 and 30 pounds per hour. This is a fine investment if the student is looking to take lessons just once a week, but the progress of improving your technique will be much slower.
These days acoustic guitar lessons are readily abundant on the internet with some music websites offering cheap video lessons. Furthermore the amount spent on online guitar lessons equates to only a fraction of the price a personal tutor would charge. The videos download straight onto your PC, therefore you are able to use and reuse the video as many times as you would like. The beginner would have the freedom to play at their own leisure and can skip or go back to certain places at just a click of a mouse button.
There are however disadvantages to taking online acoustic guitar lessons and that is as a student you will not have someone physically present to correct you if you falter or make a mistake. In any case the lesson will provide a better grounding to basic chord notes and as the videos are filmed to suit all abilities, there are close up images of where the musician should place his fingers on the strings. Each chord is explained detailing how it is meant to sound and how the strings should be strummed.
As a beginner strumming your acoustic guitar will cause some pain and abrasion to your fingertips. There is no other way to overcome this minor issue other than to practise, practise and practise some more. The best way to start learning to play like a pro is to learn your favourite acoustic song/tune. Learning techniques will help you to play the tune well and will help you become more comfortable with playing the guitar itself. Eventually your fingertips will adjust to the strings and harden slightly at the tips so as lessen the amount of pain on them.
Other guitar tuition videos are also available in small clips usually for free and can be viewed on YouTube. However very rarely will you find an entire course without having to pay a small amount for it. The online tutorials are good for providing information at hand and giving a speedy download rate, therefore you do not have to wait for the tutor to turn up! Furthermore, playing on your own will help you to develop your own style of playing, rather than taking on board a biased view of how to play.
