Many people may have wondered what happens to the information that large companies hold once they have finished running or cease to exist. What happens to old information about how the company used to run and what happens to the current information? How do successful companies keep their confidential information, confidential? Part of keeping data information secure and safe is to make sure that even if the information is no longer useful to the business, it still remains a secret.
Every company, no matter how large or small, are at risk of data leakage. With this extra security measures and efforts are made to safeguard all of this information into one simple action - data destruction. To the layperson data destruction may seem like something easy and do-able by anybody. However this is much more complicated than simply finding a heavy object and causing damage to the data information.
Even if there was on old CD lying around in an old archived cabinet that CD must not be simply thrown out into the nearest bin, but must in fact be destroyed the in the correct manner. Past news about laptops being stolen, files being hacked into and discs being lost can cause a problem for companies. This is not just through legal issues but on a fraudulent basis in that some activities can fake their identities using the information they have taken from the database.
Data destruction is a form of destroying data from the hardware with certainty and verification; that meaning that data is fully removed and therefore can in no way be recovered physically and the data is not accessed. This can be done by combining data destruction with an encryption system, marking the machine and system as unrecoverable. The destruction is usually process by a special software system that picks up if and when it has been stolen, resulting in erasing and destroying any data contained within it.
In the data being destroyed the data is not recoverable, therefore the company will lose the information but the person that has stolen the device will not be able to gain access either. Which is why it is also important for companies to have a backup system at the same time so as not to completely lose the information? Some software can even destroy data remotely. If a laptop was stole and the thief connected to the internet, then using the software already installed one can use remote desktop and completely remove the data.
Even when tossing out old machines and computers, with it are important data information, confidential customer details and business information which can be accessed. It is important to permanently remove and erase this today so as to alleviate the risk of damaging your business or company.
