A Basic Guide On Developing A Strong Fundraising Plan

All charitable organisations plan ahead of time when thinking about fundraising events and reaching to their target. Raising funds for a charity can be achieved in a number of ways, namely that of an activity, private sponsorship, donations or public sponsorships. Some organisations jump from one fundraiser to another without a sufficient programme in place, meaning that the organisations will delay in reaching to the target.

There are simple steps to planning an effective fundraiser plan and in order for the plan to lead to successful results the organisation would need to manage and follow it through rigidly. The first step into devising a rigid fundraising plan is to begin researching. Depending on what the money is being raised for one should be clear on how effectively they can raise the money in a designated length of time, ensuring that they make the relevant contacts and bring together a group of people to work on the project.

You will need to ask yourself what kind of fundraising event works and what works for the community you are in. Looking at other organisations what was the most successful event for them and what was least successful. In terms of your own organisation, what is the fundraising history? What types of projects have you conducted, how long for and how much did you raise? Do you and your staff have the commitment to fundraise? What is or will limit your efforts? What tools can use to effectively jumpstart your project such as use of technology? What are the latest techniques and how effective are they?

After thoroughly researching the above information, you can then move onto the next objective which is to actually plan. By this point you should have a clear idea of what you want to do, what resources you will need and what you are capable of pulling together. Putting pen to paper make a list of your goals (why is this money being raised? What is it in support of? What will the funds be used for?), objectives (How much will be seeking to raise and what type of funding are you seeking? Are you making an evaluation as you go along? How cost effective is the event? How many programmes will you have on the go?), strategies (how will successfully reach your objectives? What other resources do you need to achieve this?) and timeframe (how long do you intend to run the programme? How long will each strategy take to complete the objective?).

Take your time on the above before you move onto the next stage of fundraising which is carrying it out for real. This is the most nerve racking moment making it the most stressful and high pressured day. All this time planning will be put to the test as it will ultimately prove whether the organisation will reach their goals and raise the funds within the timeframe you have given yourself. This will also mean effective management of staff, monitoring progress and delegating responsibility.

After the fundraising project has completed it is always important to evaluate the day, being sure to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the event. Ask yourself whether you have reached the target funds amount, were staff comfortable in their roles and were there positive feedback from the people involved? Above all never rush into things, always be certain that all corners have been covered before conducting the event.
