Have you ever heard of arson being called emotional fires? Many times fires are started by someone that has emotional problems of some kind in their life; these people are sometimes called pyromaniacs. They set fires to gain a distorted sense of pleasure or power, usually in a vengeful sort of way. Then there are people who set fires for money. It could be burning their own property for monetary gain or they do it for others who will not do the job themselves. No matter the reason someone sets an intentional fire, property is lost and someone could get hurt or killed. That someone might just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Unless you are a trained psychiatrist, it would be difficult to understand the attraction of setting fires to homes, businesses, or even a forest just for the simple satisfaction of seeing something burn. Unfortunately it happens practically everyday. Sometimes it might be just a prank by some school kids that goes wrong, but normally it takes a mind that is pretty sick in some way. Sometimes pyromaniacs can spend years setting fire to things before they are caught. Just because the have a mental illness does not necessarily mean they are stupid.
The one thing that can usually be relied upon when a fire has been set by someone with this illness is that they will likely be somewhere near enough to see the results of their actions. This is how they get that euphoric feeling they are seeking most of the time. They do not normally set a fire and then do without the satisfaction of looking at their work. Of course, this is not always the case with all intentionally set fires.
Arsonists that burn things for money do not normally want to stick around to see their work because they normally are not addicted to fire watching itself. Their attraction is the money or other monetary gain. It is so unthinkable that someone would actually risk the lives of others just to achieve this end, but this also happens all of the time. With the skills that fire officials have today, they can usually determine when a fire has been on purpose.
An arsonists of either kind will usually leave behind some tell tale sign that the fire was not accidental. If a home or business owner ever has the thought to get out from under a debt by burning up the property, they might want to consider what the odds are of getting aught because today they are pretty good that they will.
