Deciding to become a vinyl DJ is definitely fun, but what next after you have chosen to give it a go. Well obviously you are going to have to choose some gear to be able to DJ with. There are a huge amount of brands and models on the market to choose from. Regardless of your budget you will find DJ equipment to get you started. However, there are a number of items you will need to buy, regardless of the brand and price. You can potentially spend loads of money wanting to be a DJ but here we look at what you definitely need.
DJ equipment that you have to invest in will be two turntables, one mixer, two slip mats, turntable cartridge, turntable needle and DJ headphones. Once you have all of this DJ equipment you can start learning how to mix and become a proper DJ! If you have extra cash to spend, well lucky you, you may want to consider purchasing a PA system. Clubs and venues will have their own PA system so you will only need this if you plan to do your own parties or events.
So that is the main shopping list that you need, but if you don't have unlimited funds to spend on your DJ equipment then the most important thing you need to spend cash on is your turntables. A bad set of decks won't sound good through a super hi-end mixer but even if you get a basic (or even second hand) mixer it'll sound much sharper with decent decks. If you get better at performing and your earnings grow then obviously you will be able to get yourself whatever you like than perhaps you could before.
So once you have all of your DJ equipment you can then concentrate on learning and performing well. The art of being a DJ is an art, so there is no huge right or wrong way to do it. Over time people learning to DJ will start their own techniques that fit in with their style, which could be completely unsuitable for another DJ. The best way to work out all of this is by playing and learning and choosing music that you enjoy! Any type of music can be used and using music you personally enjoy will make learning a lot easier than a genre you are not too fond of. There are many places now that sell vinyl so you really can find what you want.
