Your house floors are in a mess. Stains, which are difficult to remove, are visible everywhere and the very sight of them freaks you out. There are places where the floor has chipped too, making it a rough surface. Unfortunately, floors are not something you can just pick up and throw away. So, either you bear with the sight of those ugly stains and chips or go in for floor laying- a complete overhaul of the flooring.
Floor laying can be done over the existing floor. The old tiles or material need not be uprooted. The new tiles can just be stuck over the old flooring. But you have to be very careful while doing this. The old flooring has to be free of dirt, grime and chips else the new one will not stick properly and will come loose. The other option is to remove the old floor completely and lay a brand new one. But this requires a lot of patience and herculean strength with the proper tools.
Before the job of floor laying begins it is imperative that a floor laying plan is made, so that the exact way in which the panels or tiles would be placed can be decided. Most probably, you would need some tiles to be cut as the whole tile may not fit into the existing space. Once the plan is made and the material’s ready, the floor laying can start beginning with the laying of an adhesive. Next, the grout is applied by spreading it on a tile and pushing it into the gaps in a regimental order. Care has to be taken that each tile gap is filled else it has chances of sinking in later. The excess grout must be wiped off the surface of the tiles to prevent the tile from losing its show. The grout must be left to dry after the work is over.
Floor laying is not necessarily done with tiles. Various other types of stones can be used. Some of them are marble, granite, limestone, sandstone or slate. You may also have wood flooring (hardwood, oak), cork or laminate. The choice depends on the purpose of the flooring and the requirements associated with it.
Once the floor is laid according to personal tastes, the house is sure to become more inviting.
