You get advice from everybody down the line, but more times than not you don't take it to heart until it's too late to do anything about it. It happens to everyone at some point in their lives: A few small differences between two people in a relationship escalate to dozens or irreconcilable differences. Relationships turn apart just because neither side wanted to concede and understand each other. All that love and effort - gone.
This is not uncommon, really, and it's happened to almost everyone at some point in their lives. But through it all, the thing you need most to keep a relationship going strong is understanding. Understanding of yourself and the person you are with and their values. Even men and women who have almost everything in common run into problems and ultimately break up because they could not bring themselves to admit what they did wrong and to see what their partner meant.
Imagine a world where there is no mutual understanding between people. It's not a very pleasant thought. Every human being on earth has some level of understanding of their peers, but if they put in a little extra effort towards understanding the people they truly love and care about, so many hearts would not have to be broken.
Understanding your partner in this sense means caring about them and knowing what they feel and being willing to work with them on problems between the two of you. If your partner does something you do not approve of, try to understand why they did it, and work with it, don't get angry. Expect them to do the same. Often you get treated how you treat others, and this effect is multiplied with lovers. Two people in love are connected in an unexplainable way, and chances are neither one of you want to break up unless things have gotten really bad. But would have things gotten so bad if either of you had taken the time to consider the other's side of things? This one tidbit of relationship problem advice could save your relationship, it's just up to you to utilize it.
If you truly want to keep your relationship going strong, take this to heart. Even if you are not having problems now, you may later. And if you actually use that trait that only humans have, understanding, you could save yourself and the people you date a lot of heartache later on. It's an awful feeling to look back and think "Why didn't I..." Take this relationship problem advice while you can and try to use it. Your viewpoint is not the only one, and it's definitely not the only one that matters.
