Forgive and Set Yourself Free

Forgive and set yourself free

Have you been hurt or treated unjustly by someone at sometime in your life?

Do you still hold that hurt or injustice within you?

Do you still hold the person responsible for that hurt or injustice accountable?

Do you realise that as long as you continue to do so you cannot be free from that wrongdoing or injustice?

As long as you continue to hold those feelings within you, you cannot move forward in life from that point and the memory of that hurt or injustice will continue to have a negative hold upon you negatively and physically.

If you are willing to let go and forgive all those people you have been hurt by, you will release yourself from the negativity and hurt of that situation and then be able to move forward.

Forgiving someone is not about making light of a situation or negating that it happened because it did and it was horrible at the time but staying in those thoughts and emotions is harming you now and will continue to do so until you forgive those that have hurt you.

The people that hurt you often have no comprehension of the hurt they have inflicted nor how deep. They have their own issues to deal with and by now are involved in their own life not thinking or caring about how you are feeling well after the actual event.

Holding a grudge or perhaps even hating someone for what they have done will only to continue to hurt you. As we have discussed in earlier blogs you can’t control people with your thoughts so by continuing to hold those thoughts, all you will do is harm yourself. When you hold a grudge, injustice, hurt or hate against someone or something, you are actually holding it against yourself. Your negative thoughts and emotions towards them for what they did, will never impact on their lives, only yours.

Throughout your life hurt, injustice and wrong may happen but you alone control how you choose to react to it. Remember people can influence you but you are the only one inside your head making the decisions as to how you react and behave: people and circumstance can’t make you behave in anyway other than the way you choose and your thoughts can’t bring harm to them as payback for the hurt you have felt from an injustice by them.

How do you forgive? You simply consciously think, and I suggest even say out loud: “I forgive....(their name) for...(the event).”

This simple act is all that is need to release the negative emotion from your body and mind. You may not feel it initially but if you continue to actively forgive them in relation to the event, you will feel release from the negative emotion and feeling.

Louise Hay advocates that if we do not release the negative feelings associated with injustices in our life, those feelings can manifest in illness if they are not released. Louise suggests that you consciously and verbally make a statement to release the feelings associated with a negative or hurtful event so that those feelings do not manifest in disease. A suitable statement is: ‘I release all negative thoughts and emotions associated with ...(name the event and person) from my thoughts and my body.’

In forgiving others, it is also very important to forgive yourself. In forgiving others and yourself, you are healing your heart and setting yourself free. By releasing and letting go of the hurt and injustice you are making space for love and joy to enter your heart.

Bob Proctor likens the feelings of hurt and injustice to weeds in a garden: weeds do not remove themselves from a garden but continue to grow and choke out the flowers if left unchecked. By forgiving an injustice or hurt you are removing the weeds from your garden and opening up the garden for healthy flowers (happy thoughts and feelings) to grow and bloom.

So make a decision now to forgive all those who have hurt you, no matter what the hurt or injustice.
