An Artist Helped Out by Noble Pets

It was possible for this female painter to get her first dog when she was eight. Before it died within the year, the small Boston terrier was able to make a lasting impression on the girl. There is a special place in her heart when it comes to noble pets. One accomplished painter is what she is and she specializes in dog portraits.

She recalls spending many a Sunday afternoon in the public library, reading every dog book and magazine she could find. A professional dog handler was what she wanted to become early on being able to show dogs in trials and dog shows. Sketching and drawing the animals, at 13 she spent most of her free time going to different dog shows. At age 16, a friend encouraged her to create portraits of dogs not to mention start painting with oils.

This specialty of hers is something that she chose even if she is quite capable of painting landscapes, abstracts, sea scapes, and other subjects. Early on she was already able to create and sell a number of dog portraits and this made her feel that she made the right decision. Dogs were owned by members of the family and these were what she used for the portraits. She did a picture of their own Boston terrier and this was displayed by a local pet shop after they put up a notice about her paintings.

Considering a large measure of her progress, she credits two paintings. The first painting was of charlie black which is a captivating little mongrel restored to health and adopted as a mascot by the animal humane association. When it comes to the other painting, it pictured a handsome Alaskan malamute, the champion phantom of the ice flue.

The expression and head are very important assets for a Labrador retriever they sort of make the dog. It is difficult to photograph a black dog but it is more challenging to paint one. One of the paintings she did was of the statue of a jacket found in Tutankhamen's tomb which was unusual. She did paint Egyptian symbols in the background.

There are times when people ask her to make portraits of other pets like horses. From her husband comes tangible and psychological assistance. Holding her paints and brushes was the specially designed table he made. Using the specially crafted easels and display stands she made and stained, she shows her work. The biggest portrait she made was a three by four foot portrait of a Labrador.

Longer coated dogs are harder to paint than the smoother ones. Posing the dogs is something she does not do. It is somewhat hard for a dog to hold its head just right. It takes her an entire hour to observe the animal and from this she remembers its typical stance not to mention its sheen and the color of its coat plus the personality or character traits that it shows. Considering these characteristics being recorded onto a canvas, many people agree that she is talented.

What she does is work with the snapshots provided by the owners. There are times when the owners cannot give her a picture and so she takes it herself and then blows it up on the screen. She paints for people and she lets them decide on things like backgrounds. For some, they like sceneries while the rest want it plain. With her family commitments, she is only able to work on a portrait per month. Other than taking vacations, she has housework to do.
