Language softeners are excellent devices that you can use if you want to soften suggestions within basic sentences. What a language softener does is soften a directive or suggestion so that the suggestion does not actually seem to be a directive or a suggestion. Language softeners come in a variety of forms, and we often see them being used in the form of a question. Let us turn our attention towards an example of how language softeners can be used to disguise suggestions:
"Could you take a moment to give me your full attention?"
Now, observe the opening phrase of the sentence, "could you take a moment", sets up the actual suggestion in the sentence, "give me your full attention". Become aware of how much more covert and softer this is than if you said,
"Give me your full attention".
Clearly, it will be far less likely that you will come across any resistance from the person whom you are hypnotizing when you use language softeners. Another thing that you'll notice in this sentence, "Could you take a moment to give me your full attention", is that there is a time constraint built into it also because all I did was ask them for, "a moment". Here we have another extremely powerful persuasion technique that you can use to empower your suggestions with. Time constraints are part of what covert persuasion refers to as "time distortion".
Time distortion is another hypnosis tool that you can use to alter the decision making processes of other people. If a person is led to believe that, "it will only take a moment" for them to do what you are asking them to do, they'll be far more likely to obey you.
